Underwhelming: Holiday Inn Harrisburg – Hershey Area

My recent stay at the Holiday Inn Harrisburg – Hershey Area left much to be desired. While the hotel’s location is undoubtedly convenient, it’s overshadowed by our in-room and overall experience.

We stayed at the hotel while our son played in a baseball tournament in the area. And while this hotel may be conveniently located, it’s so overdue for a renovation that I’d stay elsewhere until it happens.

To say the room was disappointing would be an understatement. I was intrigued by the promise of a “balcony,” but it turned out to be overlooking the indoor pool. So instead of “room with a view” we had a room that looked out to a musty atrium and the inimitable stench of hotel pool chlorine permeating the room. And the lighting was dim, at best, making it feel claustrophobic and added to the dim, dreary ambiance. To make matters worse, I noticed black soot hanging from the ceiling vent. I suspect this might have been mold, which raised serious concerns about cleanliness and air quality. And on top of that, the vent dripped condensation water when the AC was on. Ick.

The restaurant staff was one of the few highlights of the stay—friendly and attentive. Unfortunately, their kindness couldn’t make up for the subpar food, which resulted in frequent trips to nearby convenience stores and fast food options.

With so many other accommodations in the area, I’d recommend looking elsewhere to avoid a similarly underwhelming and uncomfortable experience.
